Issue #21688: Repairing the Phial Quest won't acknowledge Briar Heart in inventory

I have tried many different things like reloading and removing all mods.. the game simply does acknowledge that I have pick up the Briar Heart from the forsworn.. I have picked everything else up. Please look into this and let me know; I am playing on XB1. If you need anymore info please email.

@Jay: Could you please provide a list of the mods you use in the order that they're sorted?

**Change log**:
Repairing the Phial would not recognize BriarHeart objects sometimes, causing the quest to get stuck. The scripts were using an unreliable alias fill method which has now been rewritten. (Bug #14532)

Official Patch v. 1.9: Unused briar hearts can be dropped after finishing "The White Phial"
Official Patch v. 1.4: The White Phial will now start properly if player already has a briar heart in their inventory

The patch fixed this issue in v2.0.1, so what is being described shouldn't be possible unless the patch is not activated. Other issues related to this quest were addressed by Bethesda in their official patches.

I have a problem looting the briar heart aswell, the NPC was a target of 2 quests to begin with, Red Eagle quest and Repairing the Phial quest. Red Eagle quest worked correctly and was able to be completed, looting briar hearts from the quest NPC does not work however. In my save I have killed him twice (waited for respawn) and also looted a briar heart each time but the quest will not update.

Attached a savefile, the NPC in question is probably dead now since it was only days ago I tried looting it in this save if I recall correctly.

I can confirm the problem in your save, but am unable to determine a reason as to why the problem is occurring. It may be a mod conflict or the fix in the patch may not have taken effect properly in your game for whatever reason (perhaps if the patch was not active prior to accepting the quest).

Strangely, killing any other boss briarheart warrior and taking his heart doesn't trigger an update in the quest either which makes me think something is seriously wrong here.

I can add that USSEP was activated from the start of the new game and has never been deactivated from my side, if a mod somehow gets disabled by mistake the game usually gives a warning that a mod used in a save is missing, I have never gotten that message while loading a save.

Now that I think about it the game was installed 20161210 and the patch 1.3 was released a few days later, which means that I started the game when the timestamp bug was active (official DLC may load in wrong order), and I was unaware of this bug until it already was too late, maybe that has caused this error somehow? Just trying to come up with things here that may help you.

Thanks for looking into this!

I don't know exactly what to think here other than I've never had a problem on my end since it was fixed a long time back. The only thing I can conclude here is that people either don't have the patch activated correctly (which seems to be a thing on XB1 for whatever reason) or they have a mod conflict, because this definitely doesn't happen in my game.

I'll leave this open a bit longer in the case that maybe Arthmoor can determine something from the save that was provided.

An update, I created a new character with a new game, I use the same mods + 10-15 new mods in the new playthrough.
The quest was succesfully completed on the new playthrough, I aceepted the quest without any briar hearts in the inventory, got the quest marker to loot a briar heart, I killed another forsworn than the quest marker suggested, and the quest updated when looting the briar heart.

I haven't been able to determine why the supplied save has a problem other than to speculate that the inventory filter it sets up to look for briarhearts is somehow broken.

One of us will have to progress the game far enough to be able to do this quest normally though to see if it works with just the game and patch running.

Im gonna try to give as much info as possible about the savegame.
If I recall correctly I had briar hearts in my inventory when accepting the quest, and the quest target NPC was target for 2 quests at the same time, Red Eagle quest and Phial quest, only Red Eagle quest updated when looting him, looting a briar heart from him or any other forsworn did not work. In the savegame he has already been killed and the Red Eagle quest is completed.

And Phial quest has been completed succesfully on a new character with the same mods + some new ones, difference was no briar hearts when accepting quest and not killing forsworn that was target of quest (it was the Red Eagle guy again).

I also cleaned the official .esm files for my second playthrough, they were not clean on the uploaded save, so that could probably mess something up aswell in my game.

Just FYI, On my third playthrough now and it worked fine again to loot a briar heart.
Really no idea what caused it to fail in my first playthrough, since my other playthroughs have more mods installed, maybe faulty load order, not cleansing the official .esps maybe or something like that.

@drizzlol: Thanks for letting us know. Figured it was probably a fluke but one of the project members still may need to double-check it in SSE to be sure. Too many people are reporting the issue; which either means there's a loophole somewhere or else everyone reporting it has a messed up load order or mod conflict.

I have this too. It is most likely a result of the older fixes not taking into account whether or not the marked Forsworn Briarheart has already been killed. The only mods I am using besides USSEP are [[https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3003928|Vampires Suck: No Attacks In Towns [XB1]]] and a mod I made which is almost identical to [[https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/3390747|Color Patches Remover]]. I started the game with USSEP 4.0.5 and 1.4 Official Special Edition patch installed, then later updated USSEP to 4.0.6b. This is on Xbox One.
